What we do

Creating Change Through Action

MAMA Centre works to protect the rights, safety and dignity of women, girls and marginalized populations across Nigeria. Through advocacy, capacity building, research, networking and service delivery, we work with communities and stakeholders to address inequality, violence, economic exclusion and barriers to participation.

Rights Based Approach

We use a survivor-centred and rights-based approach to address gender inequality, violence and other threats affecting women, girls and vulnerable communities.

Community Led Empowerment

We equip women, girls and communities with knowledge, skills and opportunities to strengthen self-reliance, participate in decision-making and demand accountability.

Our Programmes

Four connected areas of work, each linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

1

Gender Justice, GBV & Protection

MAMA Centre works to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence through community sensitization, survivor-centred support, legal protection and advocacy. We support survivors and promote safer physical and digital environments while strengthening awareness of women’s and girls’ rights.

SDG 5 · Gender Equality
SDG 16 · Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
2

Women & Girls' Health and Rights

We work to eliminate threats to the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls while raising awareness around maternal health, child health, nutrition, hygiene and disease prevention.

Our interventions also support vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, new mothers and children under five, through access to essential health and nutrition supplies.

SDG 2 · Zero Hunger
SDG 3 · Good Health and Well-being
SDG 5 · Gender Equality
3

Education, Digital Safety & Civic Empowerment

MAMA Centre promotes education, rights awareness and civic participation among women, girls and marginalized communities. We create spaces where people can understand their rights, develop their abilities and participate more meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.

Our work also promotes safe digital environments and awareness of Gender-Based Violence among girls and young people.

SDG 4 · Quality Education
SDG 5 · Gender Equality
SDG 16 · Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
4

Economic Empowerment & Policy Advocacy

MAMA Centre supports women, girls and marginalized communities to strengthen their economic opportunities and become more self-reliant.

Through financial literacy, livelihood development, income-generating activities, agricultural support and policy advocacy, we help communities build sustainable livelihoods while advocating for policies that respond to the socio-economic needs of women and rights-holders.

SDG 1 · No Poverty
SDG 5 · Gender Equality
SDG 8 · Decent Work and Economic Growth
